The first cup round is played
From Friday to Monday all German professional clubs and some amateur clubs fought for entry into the second round of the DFB Cup. As so often the favourite did not always prevail. Some Bundesliga clubs had problems, like FC Bayern. 18 first league clubs wanted to advance, but all did not manage this project.
Schalke 04 was the first Bundesliga club that intervened in the action. In Schweinfurt they were logically the favourites. But the squires had a hard time and needed a dubious penalty kick and an own goal for the 2-0 victory. St. Pauli lost Friday evening in Wiesbaden, Darmstadt won against Magdeburg. On Saturday, the first huge surprise awaited the football fans: defending champion Eintracht Frankfurt was thrown out of the cup in Ulm (1:2)! A few hours later another unplanned defeat followed: VfB Stuttgart lost 0:2 against Hansa Rostock. Other first league teams struggled, but still made progress. Bayer Leverkusen only managed a narrow 1-0 win against Pforzheim. Wolfsburg did not find their way into the game either, and a late goal against Elversberg finally saved the 1-0 victory. Nearly a third sensation would have come about, because the 1. FC Nuremberg had to play at SV Linx and just jumped from a defeat just from the shovel.
Bayern on the edge of the elimination
Better it did Werder Bremen and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Werder met Worms and won with 6:1. Hoffenheim played against the just relegated 1st FC Kaiserslautern in league three and could achieve the same result. Mainz held himself harmless against Aue (3:1). FC Bayern had great trouble. Against Drochtersen/Assel everyone reckoned with a Kantersieg. The regional league team made life very difficult for the Munich team. The fans had to wait until shortly before the end of the game before Robert Lewandowski scored the saving goal. In the run-up, the Drochtersen coaches only wanted to prevent a two-digit bankruptcy. The only two-digit result followed on Sunday. Mönchengladbach defeated Hastedt with 11:1. Augsburg was lucky, but won 2:1 against Steinbach. Düsseldorf did not let anything burn at the 5:0 in Koblenz. Leipzig was a little harder and could turn the gap against Viktoria Cologne in the second half in a 3-1.
surprises, but no big sensation
For Hannover we went to Karlsruher SC. Many expected an exciting game, but the 96ers won clearly with 6:0. Two second league teams had to bury their cup ambitions on Sunday. VfL Bochum lost 0:1 at the regional league team Weiche Flensburg. The DFB cup season is also over for Jahn Regensburg. A 1:2 defeat at Chemie Leipzig sealed the end. Kiel had a hard time with the Munich Lions for a long time and was also behind. Towards the end of the second half, however, the storks were able to turn the game around and win 3-1. At the end of the first cup round Ingolstadt lost on Monday in Paderborn. Hertha defeated Braunschwein scarcely with 2:1. In the duel between Cottbus and Freiburg it was exciting for a long time. In injury time, the sports club balanced out. Afterwards the penalty shootout – in favor of the SC – had to decide. The last game of the first round was played by Greuther Fürth and BVB. At the last second, the Dortmund team balanced out and. In extra time Marco Reus scored the winning goal!
